Pollinator Garden Project.

What started as a simple classroom idea has grown into a vibrant, school-wide initiative—earning us recognition as a Bee School with Bee City Canada. With support from a generous grant, students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 collaborated to create a pollinator garden on our school grounds, learning about the vital role bees and butterflies play in supporting healthy ecosystems.

Each grade played a part: younger students explored pollinators through art and science, middle grades germinated plants and learned about soil health, while older students prepared garden beds, tested soil, selected native plants, and mapped out the layout using real-world math and science. Every plant was carefully chosen to support local biodiversity.

Our pollinator garden is now a symbol of sustainability, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. Students worked hands-on in all weather, developing pride and ownership in the space. Future plans include a vegetable garden to support our hot lunch program—further connecting nature, nutrition, and learning.

♻️ The Compost Project

We’re excited to launch The Compost Project, a student-led initiative focused on environmental responsibility and sustainable living. Made possible through a generous grant from Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF), this project will help us reduce waste at RCA and teach students the importance of composting as a practical way to care for the planet.

Our Grade 8 students will officially launch the project during our March/April assembly, introducing the school community to how composting works and how everyone can take part. It’s one more way we’re working together to build a greener future—one banana peel at a time!
